Mr George Jones, well-known BBC Radio Ulster broadcaster and local celebrity, has just confirmed his appointment as patron of Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary.

George will appear at as many Sanctuary events as his busy schedule will allow and will act as frontman in the Sanctuary’s Charity Appeals on UTV, scheduled to be filmed later on this month and provisionally shown during November/December 2003. His understanding of and commitment to the work of Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary will provide a much-needed voice on local radio to spread the message about the work carried out by Mid-Antrim and about animal welfare issues in general.

“I am honoured and thrilled to have been asked to take on this role with Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary. As an animal owner myself I recognise and applaud their commitment and dedication to help find caring homes for unwanted or unloved animals and I’ll do everything within my power to help” said George.

George Jones again

Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary is delighted with Mr Jones’ participation in their work. “As an independent charity we receive no official assistance and are wholly reliant on donations from the public, sponsorship, charity events and street collections to keep us going. Our costs total around £200,000 each year and we depend on the goodwill of the public to feed our animals and meet our vet bills. In this respect George’s presence and support will give us a great boost and will help spread the word about us and the work we do.” commented Margaret Wade, Sanctuary Manager.
