Beautiful Springer Spaniels Looking For Loving Homes February 1, 2008

Harry is an adorable chocolate and white Springer, a neutered male of 5 years old who arrived at the Sanctuary after finding himself due for ‘Humane Destruction’ in the Dog Pound. He is very friendly and has the lively temperament associated with Springer Spaniels. Ideally Harry would suit an active owner with an ample garden or run.
Poppy is a black and white Spaniel, spayed female of three and a half years of age. Her owner became too unwell to look after Poppy so the Sanctuary agreed to take her in until a suitable home can be found. Poppy can be quiet and gentle yet is full of life and energy, craving the home life she has lost. She would make a wonderful addition to any family and deserves a second chance. Those of you who visit the Sanctuary on a regular basis will be well acquainted with Lupo, the gentle Doberman whose leg problems had made prospective owners reluctant to home him. We're pleased to announce that his situation has finally taken a turn for the better, and he has now gone to a new loving environment. Thanks to all of you who have given him care and attention.
Litter of lost pups need homes June 22, 2007
Posted by Jonathan Mitchell in : Rehomed , add a comment These are photographs of 8 cross-breed pups who will be
looking for homes in approximately four weeks. They are barely four
weeks old themselves and are motherless. They were found by a farmer
under an old, unused caravan, crying with hunger, nestled into a space
only a child could enter. The farmers fears grew when the mother did
not return so he quickly contacted a friend of the Sanctuary, Mrs.
Jean Boyd who quickly got in touch with us.
“Since their mother has not returned the pups have learned to feed
themselves” commented Mrs. Boyd. She is very concerned that their
mother was killed on the road or, since the area of Glenwherry where
they were found is mostly sheep farms, that a farmer has caught her
worrying sheep and disposed of her himself.
They are beautiful pups and look very much like Rottweiler may be in
their breeding somewhere although some are fluffier than others and
suggest Collie traits are also involved. If you would be interested in
offering a little orphaned cross-breed a home, please contact the
Sanctuary.

Two beautiful ginger and white kittens, found under a hedge this morning. They are too young to go home just yet as they are only 4 weeks old, so in another month they will be seeking a place to
call their own. Can you help?
The kittens have now found homes. Sorry to everyone who was disappointed.
Desperately Seeking a Loving Home! April 12, 2007
Posted by Jonathan Mitchell in : Rehomed , add a commentThis is Herman; he’s a 6 year old Greyhound male who really deserves a brilliant home. Herman’s face tells a sorry tale of a lifetime of suffering. As you can see from the photographs above Herman’s face is gnarled with teeth marks and puncture wound scars most likely due to being used for hunting.
Since Herman’s sporting days are over at the grand age of approximately six he finds himself unwanted and unloved. Herman has the temperament of a gentle giant who craves affection and longs for a home. As with all greyhounds and lurchers who have reached the end of their working lives he is quiet and loyal with a mountain of love to give a prospective owner.
When working dogs reach retirement they find themselves in the position where their only options are humane destruction or a sanctuary such as this one. After being used for hunting, a new owner may find that their pet will have an aversion to other small household pets such as cats and rabbits. A suitable new owner would be one who could devote their time to his care and development of character in order for Herman to become the ‘pet’ he deserves to be.
If you think that you can offer Herman a good home please ring the MID ANTRIM ANIMAL SANCTUARY ON 02894463993.
Herman has found a home!
Rescued Greyhound to the Rescue April 12, 2007

Shiloh is a black and white 3 year old greyhound. He arrived at the Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary in October 2006 as a child in the family he belonged to developed allergies, a problem we regularly come up against. Shiloh is an affectionate, gentle giant who, perhaps due to his size or trends, has been unable to find an owner. This inability to be homed proved to be a life saving stroke of fortune for a fellow rescue dog.
Maizie the Beagle was released into the Sanctuary’s care after her family’s home burned down in a terrible accident. With nowhere else to go the traumatised family had to find a safe haven for their beloved pet. So Maizie found solace with the dedicated carers at Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary where she found a loving home within a week!
Her new family adored her, but again, disaster struck. Maizie developed Hepatitis and became dangerously anaemic. With her life in the balance John Lavery (a vet at Firmount Veterinary Clinic) put an urgent call through to the Sanctuary looking for a Greyhound to give blood.
Shiloh came to the Rescue! As he is a large healthy dog the donation did him no harm, as you can see from the photograph. According to John, Greyhounds have a favourable P.C.V. level which is: Pet Cell Volume of red blood cells. In Greyhounds this is higher than in any other breed. Hence Shiloh was able to give Maizie a second (or even third) chance at life. Maizie is now happy to be back with her new owners who are equally delighted to have her back. She is in great health and doing brilliantly, all thanks to Shiloh.
Here at the Sanctuary, we are hoping someone, somewhere will read this article and give Shiloh his second chance at a happy life – the opportunity to live in a home where he can be loved and treated with the admiration which such a gallant hero deserves.

Ralph March 2, 2007
Posted by Jonathan Mitchell in : Rehomed , 2 commentsRalph was badly injured by a car outside Ballymena. The farmer who knocked him down took him to a local vet for treatment, but he wasn't claimed during his 3 weeks of medical care, even
though dog wardens and sanctuaries were informed.
His right hind leg bone was completely broken in two and now contains steel pins.
He's only 18 months old with a beautiful temperament. He would make a perfect companion to anyone. Please let us know if you are interested!
