Adopt a Dog
If you would like to offer one of the sanctuary dogs a loving home, please get in touch, or call into the sanctuary premises. Why not take a look at some dogs currently available for homing?
The necessary process is as follows:
- First, come to the sanctuary and see the animals here, and decide if you wish to take one home.
- After making your choice, your name and address will be taken down by a member of staff – this enables us to do a home check, which is necessary for all animals leaving our care. The success of the home check will be based upon the adoptee living within a safe distance of any main road, and having a secure back yard (typically a fenced-in area of 4-6 feet high). This will be carried out by a member of staff within a couple of days.
- A suitable candidate for dog adoption will then be asked to finalize the adoption at the sanctuary. This involves filling in the relevant adoption paperwork and paying a donation of £65. Your £65 will cover the veterinary expenses of having the pet’s first and second vaccination, along with spaying/neutering at 6 months. If you are adopting a puppy you will receive a slip to take to one of our affiliated veterinary clinics in your area, who offer the sanctuary reduced prices. This is for the dog’s benefit as the sanctuary does not make a profit. You will also receive a 6 week pet cover plan insurance. One in three pets need treatment for an illness or injury every year, and as the animal gets older the incidence increases dramatically. So please do consider the benefits of insurance for your pet. [If you are not sure, or have any questions, call Petplan FREE on 0800 072 7000]
- In addition, you will be issued with a dog licence, and the staff at the sanctuary will ensure your dog has been micro-chipped. This small chip in inserted into the back of the neck, and means the animal may be traced easily if the are lost or stolen. This micro chipping has come to us courtesy of the National Canine Defense League.
- We also offer micro-chipping to members of the public for non-sanctuary dogs. This service is available for £9:50, or FREE to those over the age of 65, or on benefits.
If you would like more information on adopting an animal or any other matter please contact the sanctuary between the hours of 12 noon and 4:30pm, or alternately email us here.
IMPORTANT: We can’t reply here to enquiries about dogs; please use one of the methods described above.

Hello,
We live in Newtownabbey and are able to give a very good home to any Giant breed of dog. We have rescued four giant dogs over the last fifteen years, all being healthy, happy and living to a great age. I lost the last of them recently and feel ready to give a good life to another. We are used with Great Danes but are willing to consider anything else. Age, ***, conditions irrelevant. Our garden is a good size, enclosed and with a huge shed but we had our last dog living indoors, and will probably do the same again. We welcome any home-checks and are willing to travel.
Thank you
Darren
Hi everyone
I have been looking for a Yorkshire Terrier or Chihuahua as my little one died before Christmas. I had only tried the Dogs Trust but you never hear from them again.
