Becoming a volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Mid Antrim Animal Sanctuary.  Volunteers play a crucial role in the work of the Sanctuary.  There are 2 types of inductions, one for “general volunteers” who want to help out around the Sanctuary and one for those specifically wanting to walk some of our dogs. Please attend the induction most suited to your interests.

Please download the registration form Volunteer Registration Form

Once you have completed your form call us after 12noon, 2 days before your chosen induction date to confirm your attendance Tel: 028 9446 3993.  Then come along on the day with your completed form – please do not submit your form in advance.

The induction will take up to 2hrs and will require some additional documents to be complete along with a presentation and information on the role of a volunteer. You will then be invited for a short 1-2-1 induction at a later date and after that, you will be free to volunteer.  It would help us greatly if you can commit to a specific day for volunteering as we have a small staff and rely on volunteers to a large extent.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOUR TETANUS VACCINATION IS UP TO DATE. You must have your Tetanus up to date BEFORE attending the induction. We consider it vital that you are protected and agreed to continue to be protected against Tetanus while volunteering with us. If in doubt, please check with your Doctor.

Age Policy

Any volunteers aged 16&17 need to be accompanied to the induction by an adult (preferably parent/guardian) who has also been through the induction process.

14&15year olds must have full time adult supervision by an adult who has also been through the induction process.

We cannot accept volunteers under 14years.

The dates for our next Inductions are as follows;

                                               General Volunteering                       Dog Walking

Oct2017                                  Sat 7th @2pm                                     Sun 8th @2pm

Thank you for considering volunteering with us and we look forward to meeting you soon!

About us

Since we opened in April 1996 we have found caring homes for an average of 20 animals each week (over 7000 to date). They come from many sources; some are abandoned, others come to us because their owners have to go into care, some due to marital breakups, moving abroad, and others are unclaimed animals from pounds throughout Northern Ireland.
