Summer Skool August 28, 2007

Hi, my name is Josh and I’ve been volunteering at the Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary this summer. I started my work here at about the start of July and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I’ve made lots of friends and a new best friend who I have named Clifford!

Clifford is a 12-week-old male pup. Although he’s a mongrel, there are several breeds which I think you can see in his make-up. He has the head of a Doberman, the legs of a Greyhound, the chest of a Jack Russell and the colours of a Rottweiler.
He has been very sick and very nearly died not too long ago, so that is why I took him home with me and spoiled him to bits! I’m glad to say he’s making a full recovery and settling in with me.
My jobs at the Sanctuary have included:
- Cleaning the dogs kennels, in the morning and a check over in the afternoon
- Cleaning the cattery (but not so often; I would rather do the dogs)
- Dog walking and grooming
- Dish washing
- Dealing with the general public and getting dogs out for the volunteers
I also did quite well on Open Day at the Sanctuary, because I entered my favourite dog there, ‘Mandy’ in the dog show and we came 1st for the best groomed dog. Now Mandy has a very nice and very good home and I bet she’s sitting in her bed with a great life ahead of her.
I’ll be sad to go back to school and know I’ll miss all my new friends, four legs or otherwise. I do still plan to come back on the odd weekend’s but then I’m already looking forward to coming back next summer.
Bye,
Yours sincerely
Josh
