Cat traps out in the wild April 25, 2006

We've recently noticed that the number here has dwindled considerably, and we need to keep a few on hand at all times.

The dog pictured in the accompanying photograph has been evading capture since November of last year. Aptly named ‘Scruffy', he is a Deerhound crossbreed and has been running wild in the Crumlin area feeding from bins and kindly neighbours until he was eventually hoodwinked into a secure garden on the 23rd of March 2006.
The proud dog warden at his side is Bernadette Burns. She has been trying to make friends with and tame this timid creature over the past months but nothing seemed to work until he was eventually cornered and the game was up. Although very nervous, he walked well on the lead and hopped obediently into Bernadette’s car.
‘Scruffy’ spent one night in Antrim Dog Pound before being brought reluctantly to the Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary where he is currently housed. The Sanctuary staff had also been trying to catch ‘Scruffy’ and, as such, would like to extend their gratitude and praise to Bernadette Burns.
If you would be interested in offering ‘Scruffy’ a home and have a very secure fense or run please don’t hesitate to get in touch. He is approximately 4 years old and with patience and company would make a terrific pet.
UPDATE: We're happy to report Scruffy has found a home.

The Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary is currently seeking a home for three beautiful miniature Yorkshire Terriers. Top left is ‘Dylan’, he is 6 years old and wants nothing more than to be held in your arms. In the middle is ‘Tara’, she is also 6 years and is very inquisitive. On the right is little ‘Daisy’ who is 4 years old. She is the most timid out of the three and is happiest when she has a toy.
They came to be with us under the most unfortunate of circumstances. Their sole carer and dedicated owner sadly passed away entrusting the sanctuary with her tiny family. Her wish, as is ours, was that they stay together in their closely knit group. Their bond is obvious, especially with their dramatic change of circumstances with each one looking to the other for support and comfort.
Ideally a retired person or couple would provide them with the time and attention they have been used to. They are all house trained and have brilliant temperaments. With this in mind, we are hoping it won’t be long before this adorable family find the home they so desperately need. Such small pets don’t do very well in a kennel environment so if you think you might know someone who would love to take on the tiny trio please forward this story to them as soon as you can.
UPDATE: We're happy to report all three dogs have found a home together.
